'Pokémon GO' India, China, South Korea Release Dates Delayed Due To Third-Party Hacking Attempts?
Jazz RosinAspiring trainers living in a handful of Asian countries are now able to play the smash hit mobile game "Pokémon GO," but it seems that other countries like China, South Korea, and India are still left behind.
Niantic Labs has been hard at work with making sure the highly popular augmented reality game is released in other countries as soon as possible.
Just last week, the developer announced that the game is already made available to Pokéfans in Central and Latin America, as well as in fifteen countries in Asia and Oceania including Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan and Indonesia.
Following these announcements, Niantic Labs has revealed that the team is currently working on blocking out third-parties who are trying to hack into the "Pokémon GO" servers.
"We were delayed in doing that due to aggressive efforts by third parties to access our servers outside of the Pokémon GO game client and our terms of service," Niantic boss John Hanke wrote in a statement released by the company. "We blocked some more of those attempts yesterday."
"There is a range of motives here from blatant commercial ventures to enthusiastic fans but the negative impact on game resources is the same," Hanke added.
Niantic has stated these third-parties to be the reason for the delay in releasing the game in other countries. Recently, the company has shut down unofficial third-party trackers like the popular Pokévision.
Towards the end of July, prior to this announcement, Hanke's Twitter account was compromised, and was hacked by hacking group Our Mine, Kotaku reported.
According to Forbes, Our Mine is the same group behind the hacking of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg earlier this year.
Fans in China, South Korea, and India are now hoping that all of Niantic's current issues with the game will be fixed so the developer can shift its focus on releasing the game in other countries as soon as possible.
