The Galaxy Note 7 is one of the Samsung's newest flagships, launched during the Mobile World Congress 2016. It is said to be one of the most anticipated devices of the company.

This time, however, Samsung made a leap from Note 5 to 7, instead of releasing a model of the same series in consecutive numbers.  With this new device, the question of many is whether it is a worthy upgrade.

Now, let's go back to the 5^th version of the Galaxy Note and try to compare it with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

The Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy Note 5 both sport 5.7 Super AMOLED displays with a 2,560 x 1440 pixel resolution for a pixel density of 515ppi.

While, the Note 7 uses Gorilla Glass 5 for protection; the Note 5 deploys Gorilla Glass 4.

Samsung, however, is taking things a step further as the Galaxy Note 7 boasts its Always-On-display, which means that a user can take notes with the S Pen on a dark screen without unlocking the device.  Most excitingly, the AOD finally support notifications from third party apps, according to PhoneArena.

Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is powered by a more powerful octa-core Qualcom Snapdragon 820 processor (quad-core 2.3 GHz + quad-core 1.6 GHz) as compared to its predecessor which is run by the older octa-core Exynos 7420 processor (quad-core 2.1 GHz + quad-core 1.5 GHz). However, the Galaxy Note 5, according to Android Authority, is capable enough to power all typical errands of today's smartphone user. Both devices do a great job with keeping the phone speedy.

In terms of the amount of RAM, the Galaxy Note 7 is only available in 64GB storage option than the Galaxy Note 5 which has 32GB, 64GB and 128GB; however, the new device is expanded up to 256GB via microSD card, which is an edge over its predecessor.

The Galaxy Note 7 houses a dual pixel 12-megapixel rear facing camera; on the other hand, the Galaxy Note 5 has a 16 megapixel camera. Both have 5 megapixel front-facing cameras. The Note 5 still have the specs of a high-end device, but Note 7 is also a very good picture companion.

Furthermore, the Note 5 has an operating system of Android 5.1 Lollipop but Samsung has updated it to Android Marshamallow. The Galaxy 7 already comes with Android 6.01 Marshmallow.

Both devices have fingerprint scanner, only that the Galaxy Note 7 features an iris scanner. Also, it is water and dust resistant with IP68 certification and has an enhanced S Pen features compared to its predecessor.

The Galaxy 7 is an enticing upgrade however it's not a major overhaul when equated to the Galaxy Note 5.
