Fujifilm GFX 50S Possibly The Best Mirrorless Camera Coming Next Year?
C. de LacyIn the recent Photokina event, lots of camera manufacturers have tried getting the limelights on their upcoming products, but all eyes were on one particular camera, which is Fujifilm's Fujifilm GFX 50S. Will this be the next best mirrorless next year?
In the paper, the Fujifilm GFX50S has more than impressive specs to boast. Folks from PCMag were able to get a hands-on experience of the medium format mirrorless camera from Fujifilm and it went way above their expectations.
While the Jim Fisher of PCMag was only able to get a feel of the prototype, the camera felt extremely light despite being more than just a small format mirrorless. The size of the Fujifilm GFX 50S represents something similar to medium format SLRs like the Pentax 645Z.
The GFX 50S seems thick for a mirrorless, but according to Fisher's experience, it wasn't much of a big deal, especially the fact that the sensor is moved towards the front of the camera and it still surprising feels comfortable to handle.
One thing to take note of the camera is the removable viewfinder. This can be modified to get angles that would normally be impossible with the base setup with certain accessories. Good thing that this doesn't breaks the weather sealing function of the body.
The image sensor, on the other hand, boasts a large 51.4MP CMOS chip. This is different from the prior APS-C Fujifilm cameras and the optical low pass filter will also be omitted.
Fujifilm is planning on releasing kits with three different lenses. These includes a 63mm standard-angle prime along with a macro and a standard zoom lens.
As for the price, there isn't any fixed figure yet, but Fujifilm is looking to release the Fujifilm GFX 50S kit that will be no more than $10,000. As to how much cheaper it can get from a $10,000 expectation will be answered next year.
