'Deus Ex: Mankind Divided' DLC Review: Is 'System Rift' Even Worth Its $10 Price?
J RoseSquare Enix has recently released the first story DLC for its stealth game "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided," and some fans have said that the content is not worth its $10 price tag.
While the base game received generally positive reviews from critics and fans alike, "System Rift" has left a lot of players sorely disappointed.
The Steam community has given "System Rift" mixed reviews, with most of the negative reviews criticizing how the DLC is disappointingly short. Most have said that the DLC only takes around three hours to finish, and does not bring anything new to the "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" experience.
Some have blasted Square Enix and Eidos Montreal for releasing this DLC, which they could have just included in the base game anyway. The DLC itself feels incomplete, and can be more likened to a side quest rather than a full-blown expansion for the game.
Players also would not be able to use their hard-earned augs and weapons in "System Rift," and starting the DLC with practically nothing does not exactly appeal to most players.
The $10 asking price is pretty steep for a really short DLC like "System Rift," which offered nothing substantial to "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided."
Now most people who played "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" would probably be experiencing deja vu right now, as this is exactly what happened to the game's first story-based DLC, "The Missing Link."
The DLC was sold at an even higher price of $15, but has the exact same issues as "System Rift." The expansion in itself is enjoyable at certain levels, but it does not feel anything worth $15 at all, Kotaku reported.
Thankfully, Square Enix released a "Director's Cut" for "Deus Ex: Human Revolution," which finally incorporates "The Missing Link" DLC into the base game. Unfortunately, it looks like they have not learned anything from their previous blunder.
Hopefully, the next DLC for "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" called "A Criminal Past" will offer a more satisfying experience than "System Rift" when it gets released next year.
