Apple iPhone 8 In The Works A Radical Redesign? What We Know So Far

Though Apple just released the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, there has been an endless stream of rumors about its next flagship. Latest reports claimed Apple is using an office in Israel to develop hardware for the unannounced iPhone 8, which will supposedly feature a radical redesign.

The good news came to light when an unnamed employee at the site claimed that some hardware for the iPhone 8 is being made in Herzliya, Israel, Business Insider reported. The unnamed employee refused to spill in-depth details about the supposed new handset, but stressed that the iPhone 8 would be altogether different from the iPhone 6s and the newly released iPhone 7.

The source claimed that the iPhone 8 would have a superior camera than that of the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 7. It further suggests that it will have an edge-to-edge display that removes the need for the top and bottom bezels - where features like the front-facing camera and fingerprint sensor are located.

Instead, Mac Rumors suggest that the Touch ID and the camera might be incorporated directly into the display. In this way, there will be no more home button.

Although in-depth details about the supposed iPhone 8 are scarce, speculations are rife that Apple will use a 5.5-inch or larger display. It is said that the display would be a flexible OLED instead of an LCD.

This will apparently allow Apple to introduce a more slender device that expends less power and offers a superior display with a higher contrast ratio and more true to life colors compare to its predecessors.

With respect to the body, it is said that Apple will move away from the aluminum used as part of the iPhone 5, 5s, 6, 6s and SE. Instead, the giant company will presumably re-embrace a glass body that is similar to the iPhone 4.

What's more, the iPhone 8 could incorporate more advanced biometric features such as facial recognition or iris scanning, as per KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. However, Kuo has not explained on what these extra biometric features would be used for, but presumably, these would be alternate methods for accessing the device.

Apple's iPhone 8 will reportedly hit the store shelves in the fall of 2017.
