Blizzard Brings Huge Nerfs To 'Hearthstone' Cards Ahead Of World Championships At Blizzcon
J RoseBlizzard has prepared a huge balancing update for free-to-play online card game "Hearthstone" ahead of its World Championship rounds at Blizzcon.
In the latest update, cards like Call of the Wild, Execute and Rockbiter Weapon now cost more mana to cast. Tuskar Totemic will also undergo a change, and its skill Battlecry will now just summon a random basic Totem, in contrast to any random Totem.
The Charge card will now be cheaper to cast at one mana only, but the friendly minion who will be given charge will no longer be able to attack during that round. The card will also no longer receive plus 2 attack. Abusive Sargeant's attack power was also reduced by one.
The most talked about change, however, was the balance change to Yogg-Saron, Hope's End, which has been a topic of concern across the "Hearthstone" community. Yogg-Saron allows player to cast a random spell for each spell they've cast during the game, but as for the latest update, the card will no longer cast spells when the card leaves the battlefield or if the card is silenced by the enemy.
The changes were announced by Blizzard amidst the community's concern about the metagame's health. Thijs 'Thijs' Molendijk, one of Europe's best "Hearthstone" players, has also voiced out his concern about the meta in an interview with Red Bull.
"I hope they will [change] before BlizzCon, I think it is needed, the game needs some kind of change," Thijs says. "It doesn't have to be big, just a small rotation, a little bit of new cards or changes to some cards, both would swing the meta around so much."
"If one thing is touched whole new decks can be opened. The decks that are now dominating the meta are also not the decks that feel really satisfying," the Dutch player continued. "There are some cards that can just swing games around in the early game already and I think this is a concept we have to be careful of for competitive 'Hearthstone'."
"Hearthstone" World Championship will happen during Blizzcon 2016's opening week, Oct. 26 - 30, with group stages spread out over five days, with eight winning challengers moving on to the BlizzCon single-elimination bracket.
All BlizzCon esport matches, which includes tournaments for "Hearthstone," "Overwatch," "Starcraft II," "Heroes of the Storm," and "World of Warcraft" will be streamed on the BlizzCon website for free.
