Is Nissan Leaf A Better EV Alternative Than Tesla Model 3? Miles, Design and Speed Check

Prakash

The Nissan Leaf's eco-friendly image, modest speed offer, and spacious design make it an affordable EV with everyday usability. It deserves a lot of credit for being ahead of the curve in mass-produced all-electric hatchback.

Let us take a 360 view of the Nissan Leaf.

The new Nissan Leaf is the only non-Tesla car that beats the other EV in the market in terms of miles per charge (MPA).

The Leaf comes in two upgraded models, SL and SV, which have a 30-kWh battery that offers an EPA-rated 107-mile range while base S models make do with a 24-kWh battery and an 84-mile range.

Coming to the interiors, its digital gauge cluster and central infotainment display provide information in a clear and mostly useful manner. It also has a helpful display that estimates how many miles of range may be lost or gained by turning the climate control on or off.

The navigation system (standard in SV and SL models) offers several EV-specific functions such as information about nearby electric charging stations and the ability to overlay estimated driving range onto the map based on the remaining amount of juice.

Leaf's power output remains at 107 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque. A zero-to-60-mph run takes 10.4 seconds, which is slower than Tesla Model S 70(5.5 seconds) a Volkswagen e-Golf (9.4 seconds) and a Ford Focus Electric (9.9 seconds).

After a test drive and checking the soft suspension, steering, brake pedal and low-rolling-resistance tyres, it's best to think of the Leaf as a comfortable transportation pod, with a soft, supple ride and good visibility that make it easy to drive, as long as you don't push the car too hard. Leaf's 24-cubic-foot cargo area is deep and offers more useful space than either of those direct competitors.

The Leaf S is priced at $29,860 which gives up the SV and SL's upgraded battery pack. The upgraded model is priced at $39,390.

The upgraded Nissan Leaf is scheduled to arrive in 2018. Stay tuned more updates.
