Xbox Boss On 'ReCore': 'I Wish The Review Scores Were Higher'
J RoseXbox head Phil Spencer has once again spoken in defense of Xbox One exclusive action-adventure platformer "ReCore."
In an interview with Game Informer, Spencer reiterated how he loved "ReCore", and said that he was disappointed when the game received average reviews from critics.
"The reason I say all this is, on Xbox One, I look at 'ReCore' and I'm having a really good time with it," the Xbox boss said. "I wish the review scores were higher, but I love the lead character and I love the gameplay."
"And you can see that, some years from now, people will want to play another version of it," Spencer continued, "because the memories that they have - even though it wasn't a 95-rated game - stick with them and they mean something over time."
This was not the first time that the Xbox head defended the once highly anticipated platformer. Speaking to Gamespot in October, Spencer has already spoken about what he thinks about the negative reviews "ReCore" received from critics and gamers alike.
"On the reviews, honestly I thought some of the reviews were a little harsh in terms of their view on the game," Spencer admitted. "But for us, inside, again I feel really proud to have the character, the story, the gameplay style, and the partnership with Armature and Inafune-san as part of our portfolio."
The Xbox head has even accused some news outlets of intentionally giving "ReCore" low scores to boost site traffic.
With a strong presence at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo plus a "dream team" led by "Mega Man" legend Keiji Inafune and the people who previously worked on "Metroid Prime," "ReCore" showed a lot of promise as a current-gen platformer. Unfortunately, the end product is not what people were expecting.
"ReCore" has received a disappointing critic score of 63 on review aggregator Metacritic, with most reviewers citing slow loading screens, poor performance peppered with technical glitches and an "uninspired world."
