'Goblin' Beats 'The Legend Of The Blue Sea' For TV Hot Issue; Lead Actor Gong Yoo Drops Message For Fans
Grace"Goblin" aired its premiere episode on December 2, and it has become the top drama with record-breaking premiere ratings in the history of tvN. Gong Yoo, the lead actor, shared his feelings for the opening success of the drama.
According to some media outlets, the star-studded cast along with unique plot twist and story have caught the attention of Kdrama viewers not just in South Korea, but all over the world.
On December 2, the first episode aired and hit an average of 6.9% and a best of 9.3%. This beat previous hit tvN drama, "Reply 1988".This drama reportedly received praise for being a high quality and well-made drama after just one episode.
In another report, Goblin has ranked number one for the TV hot issue section for dramas.
Up until last week, "The Legend of the Blue Sea" had ranked first. However, "Goblin" has received twice as much points, beating them this week.
According to the score, "Gobiln" received 7,449 points and ranked first. Taking a look at previous hit dramas, "Descendants of the Sun" hit 5,518 points, "Answer Me 1988" hit 5,260 points and "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" hit 4,720 points. Most recently, "The Legend of the Blue Sea" hit 4,315 points.
The data agency revealed that "Goblin" had done quite a bit of marketing and PR during from the beginning which could have been the reason for their quick success.
"I was more nervous about this than a movie premiere," he reportedly said. "Ah... sigh. Thank you so much for cheering me on."
"I also have to thank from the bottom of my heart the director, the writer, and the production staff for making such a wonderful production," the 37-year-old actor added. "The road ahead is long and sleepless, but please supports us so that the 'Goblin' team can continue to forge ahead without any accidents and with smiling faces."
"Goblin" is Gong Yoo's first drama in four years wherein he plays the titular goblin, Kim Shin, combining charismatic action scenes with a budding love line with Kim Go Eun. Lee Dong Wook and Yoo In Na also starred in the tvN drama series.
"Goblin" airs every Fridays and Saturdays at 20:00 (KST) on tvN.
