iOS 9.3.x Jailbreak: Lucas Todesco Develops New Jailbreak Update; Now A Browser-Based Exploit

Staff Reporter

Popular iOS hacker Lucas Todesco has just released a user-friendly, web-based loader for the iOS 9.3.x jailbreak version. Despite iOS 10.2 running for quite some time now, the Apple Jailbreaking Community is yet to see a working jailbreak for iOS 10.

In the meantime, previous iOS jailbreaks have been getting snazzier updates. The latest web-based exploit for Pangu's jailbreak simplifies the unlocking process down to a simple push of the button. And that isn't an exaggeration; at least, according to Neurogadget. All users need to have is Safari and a web URL. Once they're on the site, they can simply push the button and the phone is unlocked. Todesco developed this browser-based update (also called a Webkit) by exploiting an apparently known vulnerability in Safari's system.

Unfortunately, this update only covers the untethered iOS jailbreak version for Pangu 9.3.3, according to GameNGuide. The other hitch is its market being purely for iOS 9.3.x users only, leaving other iOS runners out of the fun. Some other drawbacks include unsupported features (firmwares not originally supported by the Pangu team) and some limitations. It's also important to note that the latest Webkit simply replaces the Pangu re-jailbreaking apps. Thankfully, being browser-based also means that users can reactivate the jailbreak without turning to the app.

It's a race to the ever-awaited iOS 10 jailbreak and all eyes are on Todesco and Chinese hacking group Pangu. There are also rumors that the iOS 10 actually renders jailbreaks useless, which could be the reason why it's taking them so long to crack it. But still, these remain speculations at best.

For the time being, Todesco's latest patch has iOS 9.3.x users jumping for joy. Being an untethered, browser-based loader that is ridiculously easy to use and does not require a developer certificate makes this version a winner. Whether or not the jailbreak patches for versions earlier than iOS 9.3.x will get the same update remains to be seen.
