Gatebox: Holographic Virtual Assistant

No voice of any virtual assistant can compare to the experience given by Azuma Hikari, the holographic character who resides inside the Gatebox, The answer of Japan to Amazon Echo, but not really.

Gatebox is designed with a screen and projector that brings the holographic character, Hikari, (Japanese for "Light") that brings light inside the device. The device external parts are microphones, cameras, and sensors to detect movement and even temperature, so Hikari can communicate and interact with the user on an intimate level, instead of a voice in a phone.

A fully interactive female voice virtual assistant, at her base control is able to manage your smart home equipment. Installed sensors have facial recognition and also voice recognition. Gatebox is designed to be a companion that can be your morning alarm, remind the user of the scheduled task and activities, a reminder on to do things and even welcome the user upon return to the house. Bluetooth and permanent internet connection is included, the device can be part of the user's hub that is linked to a television via HDMI connection

Currently conversing only in the Japanese language, the virtual assistant can infer many things, supposedly still learn and skills are developing. In a further development, she might be able to actually converse with intellect, but as the moment, the device can be communicated with through messages in the paired app. The controlling application is Android and IOS compatible.

Taro Minoboshi, the brainchild of the design, is also popular for being part of Konami's Love Plus dating sim series. Azuma Hikari, the character is 20 years of age, according to the website of her own, and loves watching anime and eating sweets, but is scared of insects. The character's background is that it has a dream of becoming a heroine for anyone that is industrious and persevering. A recent news indicated that single person households is at 32 percent, which is the largest housing segment in Japan, that is why AI characters such as Hikari does make sense.

As of the current time, Hikari is the only available character for the device, but certainly, more options will come in the future. To explain that, the technology company behind the device, Vinclu, displayed a version that starred Hatsune Miku, a vocaloid virtual singer. More of the loved characters will sure to come in the partnership of Gatebox and Vinclu, if the product will be a success

The device can be pre-ordered at the time being, and will also work in the United States, but remember that Hikari can currently speak Japanese. The first production release will be only limited to 300 unit, and will surely run out fast, even at the cost of $2,600.00.
