Avast Reports: Facebook App Greedily Drains Battery; Causes Sloppy Smartphone Performance
Keisuke AkioSmartphone users' everyday faces a recurring issue, battery drain and, worse, a completely emptied battery. A recent study revealed the source of this issue and users may not be happy with the result.
Avast software recently released a report entitled Android App Performance & Trend Q3 2016. The report discloses the top performance-draining apps for Android devices, based on battery, data use and storage data use. It also covers the essential recent trends in Android app use. The report contains the app resource consumption study for the United States and the United Kingdom.
In the Top performance draining Apps category, which excludes games in the U.S., Facebook App tops the list. The social media leader was followed by Snapchat, Google Maps and Clean Master. Another Facebook app included in the top list is Facebook Messenger, which ranks at number five. It was tailed by Instagram, Netflix, The Weather Channel and Skype rounding up at tenth place.
In addition, there is another category called The World's Greediest Apps, based on the study conducted worldwide, for Top Performance-Draining Apps that run at Startup. Again, the Facebook App clinched the top spot. It was followed by Musical.ly, Google Maps and WhatsCall. Daily Mail Online ranks fifth followed by Instagram, ynet and BBM. The ninth and tenth spots are still dominated by Facebook with its Pages Manager and Messenger. In this section, the software company discloses which apps had the most overall impact on mobile devices, in terms of draining battery life, data plan and storage.
On the other hand, a confession by an ex-Apple tech employee in SolutionOwl revealed that he had spent time and effort trying to discover the cause of low battery life in iDevices. He further stated that he discovered that Facebook App is one of the biggest battery drains there is on iPhone with Background App Refresh and Location Services enabled.
Overall, it seems that Facebook App along with its other sister apps are the culprit for fast battery drain. Avast analysis on the data gathered reported that Facebook App, Google Maps, and Instagram are relentless in ranking high and should be abstained from if no outlet is available in sight.
