Mozilla Firefox Will Still Support Windows XP & Vista Until September 2017

Many web browsers have stopped supporting Windows XP and Vista, but Mozilla Firefox is still compatible with these operating systems. However, despite of this support for the older systems, the browser will also end its support on September 2017.

Old Windows versions like XP and Vista are now a thing of the past. Microsoft has stopped support for the two systems. However, some homes and offices still use computers with these outdated operating systems.

According to Engadget, Mozilla will start moving users on these operating systems to the Extended Support Release in the second quarter of 2017, limiting them to feature updates that can be several cycles behind the curve. While the company plans to unveil a final support end date in the middle of 2017, they will effectively cut the cord when it stops delivering security updates in September.

While Mozilla Firefox won't totally stop working on Windows XP or Vista in September, a user is left vulnerable when security flaws arise due to incompatibility with new updates. It will be impractical to keep using Firefox on those systems when you could remain permanently vulnerable to exploits. Whether you like it or not, you'll probably have to consider to get a new system or a new computer if you want to experience the modern internet.

Google Chrome already stopped its support on the old Windows System since April of 2016. Google had suggested to the discontinuation of support back in April and reasoned that these older operating systems can no longer offer the crucial security updates the web browser needs to keep malware at bay.

The Computer World report reported that like the rivals of Mozilla, they urged the users still on old Windows XP or Vista to adopt the new operating system. "We strongly encourage our users to upgrade to a version of Windows that is supported by Microsoft," the company said.

Firefox will still support the Windows 7 until January 2020, and Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 is to be supported indefinitely.
