Apple MacBook Pro Battery Issue Update: Apple Understanding Consumer Reports Results, Still Believes In Its Strict And Extensive Lab Tests
Ritwik RoyApple has denied Consumer Report's battery test results for its latest MacBook Pros. The report found unexpected disparities in battery performance of three new Apple laptops. Apple Senior Vice President Phil Schiller has tweeted that Apple is working with Consumer Reports to better understand the test results and that their results do not match Apple's extensive lab tests or field data.
Those who are not aware of the issue, Apple's MacBook Pros failed to receive a recommendation rating from Consumer Reports as they found the battery life of the devices highly inconsistent. Analysts at Consumer Reports performed tests on a 13-inch notebook computer without Touch Bar, another 13-inch device with a TouchBar and a 15-inch MacBook Pro.
As per the report, the 13-inch Apple notebook computer without the Touch Bar performed for 19.5 hours in the first trial but only 4.5 hours in the next. The MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar worked 16 hours in the first trial but 12.75 hours in the second and only 3.75 hours in the third. The 15-inch Apple laptop's battery performance went down from 18.5 hours to 8 hours.
Naturally, these results are an embarrassment for Apple as the MacBook Pros are highly-anticipated and respected devices in the market. Apple is now in damage-control mode and has expressly stated that it believes in its strict and extensive lab tests. Consumer Reports is a popular American magazine that keeps consumers informed on the latest devices in market. Numerous consumers rely on their test results to make a purchase decision.
This is the first time Apple laptops have failed to receive Consumer Reports recommendation and this has come as a surprise to many. A laptop's battery life generally varies by about five percent in tests but the MacBook Pros showed a lot of disparity. Apple first declined to comment on the issue though it issued a statement asking its consumers to contact AppleCare if they had any questions regarding their Macs and their operations.
