The Steam Awards 2016 Latest Update: Winners Announced; 'Euro Truck Sim' & 'GTA V' Biggest Victors
Keisuke AkioSteam recently awarded recognition from last year games, revealing the winners of their publically voted The Steam Awards 2016. Here is a rundown of the winners in each category.
The awards debuted with the Autumn Steam sale by the end of November last year. The Steam Awards 2016 enclosed twelve unconventional categories, and have been progressively voted on and awarded across the holiday period. Users were stimulated to nominate the games most deserving to win each category. In return, Valve rewards these people with special badges for doing this.
Moreover, Valve also chose to include a number of write-in categories from players' suggestions. Originally, there were eight categories but the company added four more from the popular voting category. These categories are The Boom Boom Award; The Love/Hate Relationship Award, The Sit Back and Relax Award, and The Better With Friends Award. Steam reported that there were over 15 million nominations submitted for Steam Awards 2016.
The Steam Awards 2016 revealed that the biggest winners are Grand Theft Auto V and Euro Truck Simulator 2 each bagging two awards. For the category Villain In Need of a Hug, which, according to Steam's explanation is a game that just needs a hug, "Portal 2" was hailed, winner. For the category I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award, "Euro Truck Simulator 2" grabbed the award. This category is about a game that has no big marketing machinery behind it but gamers are fond of. Moreover, for The Test of Time category, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" was declared a winner. This award is for the game that is just as good at present as the day it was first launched.
Other winners in the Steam Awards 2016 include "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" for the category, Just 5 More Minutes, or simply the game that keeps gamers playing late. Furthermore, "Grand Theft Auto V" won in the category, Whoooaaaaaaa, Dude! or the game that blows players' minds.
"The Walking Dead," on the other hand, bagged the award for the category I'm Not Crying, There's Something In My Eye. This category is for the game that emotionally blindsided the players. "Grand Theft Auto V" additionally won the award for the category A Game Within a Game, which celebrates the best mini-game hidden within another game.
PCGames notes that Steam Awards 2016 also recognized "Goat Simulator" for Best Use of a Farm Animal category, "DOOM" for the Boom Boom category, which awards games that understand the fine art of detonation. "Dark Souls III" won the Love/Hate Relationship awards, while "Euro Truck Simulator 2" bagged the Sit Back and Relax award. "Left 4 Dead 2" won in the category Better With Friends which are games that are best played with friends.
