A small patch went live for "DOTA 2" on January 2 and 3, supplementary tweaking several new systems added with the patch 7.00 that came out at the end of 2016. It also included the usual sweep of bug fixes, along with the turning off the Fall Battle Pass.

In January 2, an update for "DOTA 2" was released and it included Weaver's Swarm, which now provides the vision of Monkey King while in a tree. In addition, it fixed control clicking on units to perform Select All of a given type. It also fixed a bug blocking clicks of hero portraits in chat.

Moreover, the January 2 "DOTA 2" update fixed a bug where some hero models failed to animate in the versus screen, a visual bug with Mjollnir's static charge effects and another bug where the default cosmetic items most of the time failed to apply to heroes.

On January 3, another extra update was released for "DOTA 2." The most recent includes making Hero Swapping now possible all throughout strategy time. Just right-click on player names at the top of the screen. Moreover, The Fall Major 2016 Battle Pass has ended. It also fixed items on the courier and added a Range Display to items, which grant auras.

Items that now have Range Display when hovered over include Dust of Appearance, Magic Stick, Gem and Magic Wand. Mekansm, Buckler, Ring of Basilius and Vladimir's Offering are now included as well. Other items with Range Display are Assault Cuirass, Headdress, Pipe of Insight, Shiva's Guard and Crimson Guard. Smoke of Deceit, Arcane Boots, Drum of Endurance, Guardian Greaves, Ring of Aquila and Radiance, as reported by PCGamesn.

Several changes were also made to the Hero Builds server for the January 3 "DOTA 2" update. However, there are reports that it is still bugged out. It hinders guide makers to update or publish new builds. Community member and guide creator TorteDeLini has already noted this error, which means another fix could come soon.
