'Call of Duty' 2017 Hints Twentieth Century Setting; No More Futuristic Timeline After 3 COD Flopped

It seems that "Call of Duty" have learned their lesson after lukewarm reception of "Infinite Warfare" and will now revert to the old non-futuristic CoD. "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" was lambasted by 2.6 million dislikes and some of them are pointing the futuristic setting as culprit.

Time to fast forward to 2017, it took developers 3 "Call of Duty" releases and continually dwindling support to realize that gamers are calling for the good old present-day plot. While Sledgehammer is doing everything to make "Call of Duty" 2017 version palatable, recent teasers hinted that upcoming game will be set in the twentieth century, GeeksUltd suspected.

When Sledgehammer posted the teaser in their Twitter account, the old engine is counting down to 2017. This "Call of Duty" can be taken as indication of a swerve from futuristic genre. Further, developer Mike Condrey also Tweeted a picture where "Call of Duty" 2017 sports an M1911 Colt pistol. The cal. 45 magazine-fed handgun used extensively by US soldiers during conflicts in Korean and Vietnam wars.

Conclusively, these two hints can be reeling towards present-day "Call of Duty" setting. Of course, everything about this iteration is on the fly so Sledgehammer can still change everything. "Call of Duty" is still in the teaser stage and nothing is substantial yet.

Here is another school of thought from PCGamer; could "Call of Duty" be heading towards WW1 or WW2 perhaps? Although previous rumors are linking "Call of Duty" to either Korea of Vietnam. Of course, Vietnam is a nice choice given that it is more extensive conflict compared to Korea.

Gamers have to admit that Twitter posts and M1911 pistol doesn't reveal much about "Call of Duty" 2017. However, contemporary "Battlefield 1" have already lighted the wick towards World War 1 setting and did well. Do you think "Call of Duty" will follow suit?
