2016 was clearly the best year for first-person shooters, but fighting games also had their highs and, well, lows. Last year saw the return of "Street Fighter," which played better, but in a disorganized kind of way. Still, we had "The King of Fighters," a shockingly good revitalization -- and the best is yet to come. This year, big releases are coming to PlayStation 4.

Before we go through that, however, let's look back at three of some of the most exciting fighting games that most gamers still revisit. We're with you in dreams that these games should get a PS4 version.

"Soulcalibur"

There is not one gamer who did not dare bask in the realm of "Soulcalibur" before. Creator Hiroaki Yotoriyama's series of fighting games deserve its very own spotlight, particularly because of its accessible gameplay and emphasis on weapons over traditional martial arts. PlayStation 4 users beg for this so bad --and Bandai Namco should do something about it soon.

"Bloody Roar"

There is a pretty good chance Raizing's unique arcade game will find its way to the PS4, as the game had been previously adapted for the PlayStation before. Besides, who doesn't thirst for half-human/half-animal battles and go full on Beast Mode? Take it from Gamespot's Jeff Gerstmann, who said that the PlayStation game was "every bit as good as the arcade version."

"Power Stone"

A modern "Power Stone" rendition on the PS4 should make Sony's console more brawler-mighty than it already is. Capcom's 3D arena fighter has been shelved in a decade, but those who have played it before know for a fact that it held up well over the past 15 years.

While we are all hoping that these games make a return on PlayStation 4, there's still plenty of reasons to be happy this year, as "Tekken 7" and "Marvel vs. Capcom" both have 2017 releases, PlayStation Lifestyle reported.

Fighting games aren't going anywhere and this genre clearly has an extremely bright future ahead. What fighting games would you like to see again?
