Lego's Latest Robotic Sets Teaches Kids How To Code
Caroline SorianoLego is known for producing high-quality toys for kids and adult collectors. The company has been in the industry for over 80 years and up to now, its popularity is never decreasing. Just recently, the brand has announced its latest building set at CES and it will concentrate on the basics of programming.
Lego, the famous toy building brick company, will release a new robotic set that combines its famous building blocks with motors, sensors, and app control to allow kids create various robots that will respond to stimuli. Called as the "Boost kit", the set will be mastered by the Move Hub, a variety of connections used in inclusions like the motors and visual sensors, and a special Lego brick built with the tilt sensor.
The set will be run by the Boost app via a tablet or smartphone device, which will then communicate with the Move Hub. This will carry out the instructions for creating five various robotic projects. It will also include Short Circuit-like cat, guitar, robot, vehicle and a 3D printer (via Entrepreneur).
The latest robotic set from Lego will not only entertain kids but also, help in learning to code. Each inclusion has its own functionality and the Boost creations are designed using several interconnecting blocks present in the Boost app. Think of it like the Lego Mindstorm, the system works similarly however, it has a more basic interface that aims to attract the young users.
By using this set, users can learn how to code their robots and control in Creative Canvas mode. This also provides a way to the programming tools outside of the five projects.
However, Lego's robotic set is not made to replace the Lego Mindstorm -- the company's flagship for many years. Instead, it will act just like a brother to it with many differences in terms of functionality and parts. The company is planning to make Boost kit available in the second half of 2017, according to CNet, and will cost around $160 per set.
