Tesla Autopilot Mode Software Update, Autopilot HW2, Downloading To HW2 Vehicles; No Release Notes Yet
Ritwik RoyTesla Motors is gearing up to be the first company to put fully autonomous vehicles on road. Now it has been revealed that the EV maker is rolling out software update for the fully-autonomous vehicles. The update will first be activated on 1,000 test vehicles and the entire fleet will run on the shadow mode. The software update is being called the Autopilot HW2. The HW1 was the previous update that worked with human supervision.
According to First Post, the new update will also improve the Ludicrous+ mode by one millisecond. The new hardware incorporated in the Tesla vehicles has 12 updated sensors, eight cameras and radar with faster processing. The older vehicles, not supporting the self-driving software, will keep receiving updates for software improvement. The Autopilot HW2 will allow Tesla vehicles to drive to a destination without human intervention, drop off passengers and even park itself with the press of a button.
"HW2 Autopilot now downloading to all HW2 cars, but in non-actuating mode to assess reliability. If looks good, actuation by end of week," tweeted Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
The HW2 Autopilot update is finally rolling out for all Tesla vehicles manufactured since mid-October 2016 though the update will not be a working one. The update does not have any release notes yet but can be downloaded to a car.
