Nintendo Switch May Not Surpass Wii U Sales; Other Consoles May Not Need To Worry
Dannel Picaccio Camille Perez LozanoThe Nintendo Switch has immediately become a household craving as soon as it was announced. However, there may be those in the know who believe the hardware may not be as successful as some envision it.
PR News Wire reports that, according to the Games Developers Conference, out of about 4,500 developers, only 50 percent of them believe that the Nintendo Switch console could outsell the Wii U. The latter is Nintendo's previous console addition. They said that despite the Nintendo Switch being an innovation, it may be a disappointment to the company in terms of actual sales.
As per the GDC, the Wii U has remained stagnant after the mark of 13 million units, which was considered catastrophic, compared to the consoles within the contemporary generation. As per Fortune, the numbers for the PlayStation 4 units went to a whopping 53.4 million, followed by the Xbox One with 25 to 30 million. The original Wii sold over 100 million units within its lifetime, which led to the belief that the Wii U was to put the same statistics up.
The Virtual Boy, being one of the biggest failures in the past, acts as the staple for the Nintendo Switch to surpass. Statistically, the same report speaks of 14 percent thinking the Nintendo Switch will not be any better than the Wii U, and 37 percent being uncertain. It is mentioned that 19 percent of game developers believe that the hybrid will attract customers, with the 48 percent identifying the console as pleasant but not a massive deal.
The Nintendo Switch is identified as the company's entry to battle the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; being a hybrid console that can be converted to a handheld device. By simply detaching and reattaching some parts, gamers can bring their game with them anywhere, continuing where they left off at their own convenience. It is expected to come forth by early March of this year.
