Samsung Confirms Galaxy S8 In New Patent; First Look At Smartphone’s Real Exterior Shows Dramatically Reduced Top & Bottom Bezels
Athena DeeThe Samsung Galaxy S8 has been a well-kept secret, until last week. Just recently, the floodgates have opened and consumers are treated to what could be considered as the best look at the upcoming flagship.
According to Forbes, Samsung has inadvertently confirmed that the Galaxy S8 will soon exist. The Korea-based tech giant revealed that the flagship is coming soon after it applied to the United States Patent and Trademark Office to register a new mobile device.
Based on the information stated in the patent application, no details were provided regarding the Samsung Galaxy S8’s style, size, or color. Unfortunately, though, the company did not disclose the actual name to be used for the device. Consumers are expecting that the upcoming device will be called Galaxy S8 - primarily because it is the Galaxy S7’s successor.
However, it is worth noting that 2015’s Galaxy Note 5 was followed up with Galaxy Note 7 in 2016 - entirely skipped up the Galaxy Note 6 name. Plus, multiple news sources have also pointed out that Apple might change up the name for this year’s iPhone model. That said, the Galaxy S8 device might not be called S8 after all.
However, it would appear that a reported official first look at Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge was revealed on Twitter just recently. The photo shows two cases of similar-looking devices.
The images confirm that the upcoming flagships will have dramatically reduced top and bottom bezels. The bezel-less look confirms that the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge will have smaller screen displays. That said, the devices are expected to come out physically smaller than the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
It has also been reported by news.naver.com, via Sam Mobile, that the Korean company has decided to skip this year’s Mobile World Congress. Instead, it will reportedly have its own launch even in New York in March, with the Galaxy S8 series going out on sale by April 18.
