'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' Map Size Revealed: 8 Times Bigger Than 'Skyrim'

'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' Map Size Revealed: 8 Times Bigger Than 'Skyrim'

Everybody knows that "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is going to be huge. However, nobody thought that "huge" is going to be the literal description of the map size for this Nintendo Switch launch title.

When it comes to map size and massive world setting, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" is the standard while "Xenoblade Chronicles X" is the very definition of huge. If "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is taken into the equation, descriptions show that it is going to put "Skyrim" to shame. Zelda is falling just a bit short of Xenoblade's world.

Make no mistake about it, it is Nintendo themselves that teased "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" map size. Gamers immediately dug out information then, especially those who were able to test the demo. Indeed, Zelda appears so massive albeit lack of confirmation about its exact size.

To clearly impress how huge "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" world is going to be, remember that "Skyrim" measures around 45 square kilometers. On the contrary, the Nintendo Switch release will reportedly measure 8 times that size at 360 square kilometers according to an estimate by Eggplante.

This 360 square kilometers of map seems mind-boggling for "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" fans, but it is an educated mathematical equation as well. Nintendo teased in a statement through Polygon that the map used in the Zelda demo was just 1 percent of the total world.

Here is a worthy thought: "Xenoblade's" world could be checked fast by using mechanized rides so no worries on explorations. In "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" though, the fastest means of transport is the horse Epona, which means Nintendo Switch players could be in for a long ride before truly finishing the whole map.
