LG G6 To Launch Next Month: The First Non-Pixel Phone To Get Google Assistant—Or Alexa? [VIDEO]
Rei LantionThe South Korean electronics conglomerate is ready to launch its flagship model come February 2017 at the Mobile World Congress. The LG G6 smartphone is rumored to come with a Google voice assistant service, making it the first smartphone not bearing Google's brand to use the Assistant. This would place it ahead of its fellow android competitors, such as the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8.
The only phones so far to have Google's AI Assistant are Google Pixel and Pixel XL. According to CNET, if the LG G6 decides to use Amazon's Alexa assistant, it would be the second to do so. Huawei's Mate 9 for the U.S. currently holds the honor of first place, but the LG G6 would be nonetheless memorable for holding second.
More consumers are leaning towards Google Assistant for the LG G6, however, and they have solid basis. According to Gadgets360, LG had an agreement with Google to feature their assistant in one of their models. No report yet whether they had a similar deal with Amazon for Alexa, but with iPhone's notoriously sassy Siri and Samsung supposedly working on their own smart assistant called Bixby, the two AI's seem like the best choice for LG at the moment.
iTechPost quotes Business Korea, saying LG Electronics is "strengthening cooperation with global companies, such as Google and Amazon, as part of its efforts to promote its sluggish smartphone business." They also mention the rumors surrounding LG's next line of Android Wear. If they're to be believed, LG plans to use Google's AI to power their upcoming smartwatches, which could also be unveiled next month at MWC alongside the LG G6.
Other features for the LG G6 include "heat pipes" for better cooling. These were added as per LG's on-going efforts to make their products safer. The heat pipes are said to prevent the heat from reaching the battery cell by dispersing it, effectively lowering the processor temperature by 6-10 percent.
