Samsung Galaxy S3: 10 Million Units Sold Despite Several Quality Issues

Pooja Drubra

The Samsung Galaxy S3 may be an amazing phone touting a multitude of features, but several reports abound about the bugs that have surfaced. Despite the glitches and several quality issues, the phone has added another laurel to its wreath by crossing the landmark figure of 10 million units sold since its launch in late May.

Let's have a look at various bugs in Galaxy S3, despite which, the phone is still selling as hot cakes.

Starting from the external features, the most visible feature of the S3 is its low quality battery cover. Users have observed various cracks on the button and sides, which are nothing but manufacturing defects. Samsung, on its part, has offered to replace all of them. Additionally, the plastic body worsens the quality of the product. If that wasn't enough, overheating seems to be a major issue thanks to the Galaxy S3's plastic body and thin chassis.

Users also faced problems while typing texts. Many a times, the typed words seemed to be non-responsive and took a lot of time while posting. Users had to type innumerable times in order to insert text or even move the cursor for that matter.

The camera too is not spared from the glitches blitzkrieg. The rear-view camera didn't give an optimum performance and faced various issues during its operations. Also, few bugs were experienced while playing flash video.

A user also reported that the phone was stuck indefinitely and unable to bypass a certain battery level while charging, even after plugging it in the charger for hours. To add on to the problems, the standby mode consumed more than the expected amount of battery.

As far as connectivity is concerned, various users complained that they could not connect to Wi-Fi networks. Even if the phone somehow managed to connect to a network, it disconnected the very next moment. Various people also reported microphone malfunctioning during a voice call, where the person on the other side was unable to hear the caller with the Galaxy S3 handset.

Problems with the memory discrepancy also arose. A lack of internal memory existed and despite various factory resets; it seemed the same, which was far less than 16 GB.

Despite the phone's shoddy quality and performance issues, Samsung's Galaxy S3 has surpassed the expected number of sales. The high sales figures are probably due to the fact that with little competition to challenge it, the Galaxy S3 currently enjoys market monopoly. The phone is expected to do even better in times to come, well, until its rival. the iPhone 5, arrives.
