The Instant Apps for Android was announced at Google's I/O Developer Conference last year. Apparently, the feature was planned to be released last year, but recent reports concluded that Instant Apps is already going live today.

In a post on the Android Developers blog, it was announced that the feature is now available through several apps. This is a part of a limited test that Android users can choose to participate.

According to Tech Times, the Instant Apps feature allows user to download a certain app through a device without having to go through the full installation process.

When users access certain websites through the Google app, users may see suggestions to download that application. The app will allow for a streamlined mobile device experience to access the content of the website. But usually, mobile users skip the installation and use the browser version instead.

However with Instant Apps, Android apps will open and load instantly on mobile devices. While not as fast as loading a webpage, accessing the will only take a few seconds, much faster than downloading and install it first.

The publication reports that the limited test is kicking off with BuzzFeed, Wish, Periscope, and Viki included in the test. The Android team will be collecting feedback from users who are participating in the testing.

The goal is to expand the feature to more apps and more Android mobile users in the future. Android mobile owners who want to join the testing are free to access any of the mentioned websites above.

ZDNet reports that Instant Apps aims to help mobile users complete tasks more quickly. Example is a user of a mobile site can get the experience of its shopping cart with having to install the entire app.

The feature have been modularized so that only the relevant activity of the app is downloaded, after the user taps an Instant Apps URL. Take note that Instant Apps can't do background notifications and need to be files under 4MB in size.
