Pokemon & Nintendo Might Release A New 'Pokemon Go' Device That Will Secure The Safety Of Its Players
Keisuke AkioThe Pokemon Company alongside Nintendo, is thinking of developing a new device for players to play "Pokemon Go" more safely.
Pokemon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara said in an interview with Nikkei, that player safety was always a concern while developing Pokemon Go. Last summer, "Pokemon Go" was linked to a number of death cases. The publisher was worried players would grow too absorbed in their phones to be unaware of their environment.
According to Ishihara, the company planned to make a game for people to play outdoors, instead of at home. The possibility that players could become too engrossed in playing "Pokemon Go" that they might walk themselves into danger was an alarming issue at an early stage.
The executive added that in order to avoid danger, they launched the "Pokemon Go Plus." With the smartphone-linked wearable device, "Pokemon Go" players will not have to look down at their smartphone screens all the time. He noted that together with Nintendo, their company is planning of making a new device that can be played more safely.
"Pokemon Go Plus" is a wrist-mounted device that made playing the monster collecting game more convenient and safe. Gamespot notes that it launched in September, after the release of the base game. Originally, "Pokemon Go Plus" was intended to release in July, proximate to the launch of "Pokemon Go" the accessory was however delayed. In "Pokemon Go Plus" pre-sales phase, it sold out and started appearing on eBay for prices upwards of $100 there were even some priced more than $200. Nintendo later apologized for the stock shortages and assured fans to increase production.
Meanwhile, since "Pokemon Go" was first released in the U.S. in July, the smartphone app has been downloaded more than 600 million times across the world. It has become a global phenomenon, and its vast popularity lifted the sluggish game industry as a whole.
