2017 is without an iota of doubt an important year for Square Enix as two of its franchises, "Final Fantasy" and "Kingdom Hearts" are celebrating their 30th and 15th anniversaries, respectively.

Fresh on the heels of "Final Fantasy VII's" 20th anniversary, Square Enix gave avid gamers a special peek at the "Final Fantasy VII Remake" during the franchise's 30th-anniversary celebration in Tokyo Tuesday, Jan. 31. The highly-anticipated remake of "Final Fantasy VII" will be playable on PlayStation 4 on a yet-to-be-announced date.

'Final Fantasy VII Remake' Latest Update

To mark this red-letter day, Square Enix gave fans a brief glimpse of a new "key visual" for "Final Fantasy VII Remake" featuring Cloud and Sephiroth. The image shared by Japanese website GameStalk (via Siliconera) is quite a high-resolution image.

Since avid gamers have been waiting with bated breath for the studio to reveal more details about the game for well over a year, any sort of info regarding the title is a welcome one. Nothing is set in stone as far as the title's release date is concerned; however, earlier this year, game director Tetsuya Nomura attributed the delayed release to the time-consuming production process.

'Kingdom Hearts 3' Latest Update

Aside from shedding more light on the long-awaited remake of "Final Fantasy VII" for the huge fan base of the hit role-playing video game franchise, Square Enix also managed to sweep "Kingdom Hearts" enthusiasts off their feet by posting a new image for "Kingdom Hearts 3" on the game's official Twitter account.

The screenshot shows "Kingdom Heart's" protagonist, Sora with his back to the player. Although this isn't quite a major revelation, fans of both "Final Fantasy" and "Kingdom Hearts" franchises deemed this as an apt tribute to some emblematic "Final Fantasy VII" representation, Polygon reported.

It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Cloud has made an appearance in "Kingdom Hearts" games. However, the recently surfaced art does not imply "Final Fantasy VII" will evidently figure into the next "Kingdom Hearts" game.

Regrettably, details about "Kingdom Hearts 3" are quite sporadic at the moment but the more concrete details are likely to surface ahead of the franchise's big birthday celebration.
