2017 will mark the 30th year of Square Enix's "Final Fantasy" video game franchise. Yesterday, the video game developer hosted an event to commemorate the anniversary of its most popular video game franchise to date.

Fans of the video game were all hooked on the livestream of the event awaiting announcements about the "FF" game franchise. A number of fans have speculated that a new "Final Fantasy" game may be in the works.

Reports about Square Enix releasing a new "FF" game have been making rounds for quite sometime now. The rumors started htting the web when Square Enix announced the "FF VII" remake back in 2015. Unfortunately, no other details about the highly anticipated game was announced at the recent event. This led to disappointment among Final Fantasy fans.

The only hint about "FF 7" during the event was the unveiling of the new key art of the game. The art is pretty impressive.

Notably, there was nothing new unveiled at the event. The only "FF" related news announced during the event was about the "Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age" remake. A "Final Fantasy XII" release date has been announced. The "Zodiac Age" will be rolled out for gamers on July 11 for the Sony PlayStation 4 video game console.

A report suggested that Square Enix may still be in recovery mode after spending a lot on "Final Fantasy XV" release. This may be the reason why the game developer has not revealed new developments for the game series.

Square Enix also announced upcoming DLCs for the "Final Fantasy XV" during the event. This year marks the 20th year of "FF7".
