Nintendo Switch & 3DS Will Co-Exist For Now But There Might Not Be A Successor
Hemal VoraNintendo has been focusing on both its portable and home console market. Although there has been a steady decline for the Nintendo Wii U Home console, the Nintendo 3DS portable consoles are still holding steady in the market. With the latest announcement about the upcoming portable as well as home, hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch, there has been several questions on whether there will be a successor to Nintendo 3DS.
Nintendo Is Thinking About Handheld Consoles, But Not For Now
In a recent interview with the Time Magazine, President Tatsumi Kimishima from Nintendo said that the company is not making a successor to the 3DS at this point in time. He also said that the company however still has thoughts about its portable systems and are planning on ways to continue bringing efficient portable consoles into the gaming market, as reported by Gamerant.
Nintendo Always Researches On Future Gaming Systems
This is indeed great news for many portable console lovers. According to the Forbes, Shinya Takahashi, Nintendo's Entertainment Planning and Development Director and Managing Executive Officer General Manager, has said that the company has been working on new game titles for the Nintendo 3DS. In the lines of a 3DS successor, he said that the company is always researching the potential video game systems for the future. However, this doesn't implicate that the company is going to release a new hardware anytime soon.
Kimishima Believes Nintendo 3DS & The Switch Can Coexist
Also, President Kimishima said that he believes that the Nintendo 3DS and Switch can coexist in the market for now. Given their unique features and the different titles that are available on the two consoles, one will not affect the sales of the other. He also said that given the lightweight, shape, and affordability of the Nintendo 3DS, parents would still prefer to get children the Nintendo 3DS. He added that the Nintendo 3Ds meets different needs of different markets compared to the Nintendo Switch.
It looks like Nintendo 3DS will continue to be stable in the presence of the Switch. So, fans may not see a 3DS successor anytime sooner.
