Many iOS 6 users learned on Jan. 1 that Apple's 'Do Not Disturb' feature took its capabilities to a whole new level. If you're like many iOS 6 users who use the 'Do Not Disturb' feature by setting a pre-set schedule of when to enable and disable the feature, you definitely weren't disturbed on New Year's Day.
The feature made its debut on iOS 6 and has proven to be a very popular feature, Apple even created an iPhone 5 TV commercial highlighting this sole feature. When using Do Not Disturb, you can enable it by turning it on completely in the Settings app or you can enable it by using a scheduled time of when to turn it on and off.
With the feature enabled using the scheduling option you can automatically set your device to disable your iOS 6 device from notifying you of incoming calls, text messages, emails, and other notifications and before Jan. 1, the feature would automatically enable and turn on notifications. It is one of the best and most underrated features found in iOS 6.
Do Not Disturb scheduling will also allow you to be alerted to phone calls, if you choose to be, by using the "Allow Calls From" option and you can also be notified of repeated calls from the same person if the call is made again within 3 minutes by using the "Repeated Calls" option.
Unfortunately, the new year also highlighted an unknown bug in iOS 6 that didn't automatically disable the feature for users who have it setup to turn on and off at scheduled times. On Jan. 1, users began to notice they weren't receiving any notifications and flooded Apple's support forums reporting the issue.
Apple has posted a support article that Do Not Disturb scheduling will begin working properly again after Jan. 7, 2013. Apple notes:
After January 1st, 2013, Do Not Disturb mode stays on past its scheduled end time.
Resolution
Do Not Disturb scheduling feature will resume normal functionality after January 7, 2013. Before this date, you should manually turn the Do Not Disturb feature on or off.
To turn off the scheduling feature, tap Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb and switch Scheduled to Off.
Many users who rely on this feature were hoping for a fix very soon. Do you agree with Apple's fix for the issue by telling users to wait until after Jan. 7, 2013 for normal functionality to return? Let us know in the comments below.
