Sprint is slowly, but surely, getting into the Windows Phone 8 scene.
Per reports, Sprint is looking to bring a whole new set of Windows Phone 8 devices this year for its users, and will not be carrying over any of last year's Windows Phone 8 handsets.
Sprint has reportedly been trying to catch up with the rest of the big U.S.-based carriers in terms of offering new Windows Phone 8 handsets for quite some time, and although the company is coming late to the WP8 party, a company executive has confirmed that the Sprint-based Windows Phone 8 handsets that are set to arrive this summer won't just be retreads of existing models.
Earlier this month, the company hinted its users that WP8 phones would be available 'soon.' At that time, it was reported that Sprint has plans for Windows Phone 8 devices in 2013, with the company even announcing on its Web site that "Windows Phone 8 is coming soon."
However, that announcement by the company has now been altered and modified to provide a bit more information for interested users and fans. "Sprint will offer a pair of Windows Phone 8 smartphones by summer 2013. These initial devices will offer a robust operating system and lots of innovative features, all enhanced by Sprint's unlimited data plans. Here's what to expect from Windows Phone 8," the company wrote.
It has also been confirmed that all the expected WP8 features will be arriving with the device, as it is more than expected that the carrier will not leave any stones unturned. The company states further:
Now, Director of Device Delivery Ryan Sullivan has explained that when Sprint does release WP8 phones, "they'll be current." He continues, "We're working for current product launches, and not necessarily to launch on six-month-old hardware."
Moreover, Sprint will also be looking to cover up its unsuccessful stint with Windows Phone 7 by pushing out brand new Windows Phone 8 devices. Sullivan says that the difference between WP7 and WP8 is that Windows 8, per a PCMag report, "has helped develop synergy across Microsoft properties, leading to greater potential success as the Xbox, Windows 8, and Windows Phone 8 experiences come together."
However, contrary to everybody's expectations, Sprint didn't bring any new hardware to CES, but more information about new WP8-based Sprint devices are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2013.
