As Sony prepares to unveil Xperia Z, the biggest flagship smartphone in the history of the company, the device seems to be exciting many Android fans about the possible addition of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean before the end of the next month.
Xperia Z has reportedly reached the European market, notably in France, even before its originally anticipated overseas arrival. The smartphone will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board, but according to an Xperia blog report, the device will receive the latest Android operating system update just weeks after its initial launch.
"A screenshot sent by an anonymous tipster to Xperia blog shows the Sony Xperia Z C6603 being powered by the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, with a firmware version of the latest Android build as 11.1.A.1.450," GSM Arena reports. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean would possibly bring an updated 3.6 kernel to Xperia Z compared to the 3.4 kernel featured on stock Android 4.1.2 firmware. However, unofficial reports do suggest that the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update would be released in Europe by the end of March.
As we have reported, Sony Xperia Z features a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with Adreno 320 GPU. "The Snapdragon S4 Pro processor is asynchronous, which means each core is powered up and down independently. So you get the precise amount of power when you need it, without wasting power when you don't," notes Sony.
The waterproof and dust resistant Xperia Z smartphone sports a 5-inch full HD Reality Display (1920 x 1080 pixels) with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, which gives the "same quality you'd expect from a top quality HDTV." The device will be available with 16GB of on-board storage with an option to expand the memory to a further 32GB using a microSD card. The Xperia smartphone will be loaded with a 2330mAh battery with a battery STAMINA mode, which saves unwanted battery drainage. The battery can support up to 11 hours of talk time and 550 hours of standby time.
It will feature 13-megapixel rear-facing and 2-megapixel front-facing cameras. The smartphone will be available in three colors: black, white and purple. The Xperia Z measures 5.47 x 2.79 x 0.31 inches and weighs 5.15 ounces.
