The evad3rs team has already released an update to the evasi0n iOS 6 jailbreak tool, in response to Apple releasing iOS 6.1.2 on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The team released the tool within hours of Apple's release of iOS 6.1.2.
With the release, Apple fixed the bug that was causing iOS 6 devices to continuously loop when syncing a recurring calendar with Microsoft Exchange and causing the device's battery life to quickly drain.
Anyone who is currently jailbroken with evasi0n or has already updated to iOS 6.1.2 will be happy to know that Apple did not fix the necessary exploit used to run the evasi0n untethered jailbreak and the method will work with iOS 6.1.2 after the team updated evasi0n to version 1.4 yesterday. It's very impressive that the group was able to update the jailbreaking tool in record time, test it out and release it after iOS 6.1.2 had only been released a few hours before.
Here's how to update to iOS 6.1.2 if you're already jailbroken:
1. Make sure you backup your iOS device through iTunes or iCloud.
2. Download iOS 6.1.2 for your device; you can find your device's firmware here. Save it to your desktop.
3. Turn off Passcode Lock in case you have it enabled. Settings > General > Passcode Lock > Off.
4. Perform a DFU mode to restore your device to iOS 6.1.2. To do this you'll need to have your device attached to your computer. Press the power button and home button together for 10 seconds. Release power button but keep holding the home button until your device is recognized by your computer and open iTunes. iTunes will display a message that your device needs to be restored. If you're performing this on a Windows PC press Shift key + restore, Mac users press Option key + restore. You'll now need to select the firmware you saved to your desktop and update.
5. You can either restore your device from the iTunes backup or iCloud backup you performed.
6. Once your device is back up and running leave it connected to your computer. Download and install evasi0n 1.4.
7. Open evasi0n and click "Jailbreak". Let the tool do all the work. Once this is complete you will see a Jailbreak icon on the home screen of your device. Tap it.
8. Your device will reboot a few times. When this is complete evasi0n will give you a message that the jailbreak is complete. You'll now have Cydia on your homescreen.
If your device is not jailbroken:
1. Make sure you backup your iOS device through iTunes or iCloud.
2. Turn off Passcode Lock in case you have it enabled. Settings > General > Passcode Lock > Off.
3. Update to iOS 6.1.2.
4. Download and install evasi0n 1.4.
5. Open evasi0n and click "Jailbreak".
6. Your device will reboot a few times. When this is complete evasi0n will give you a message that the jailbreak is complete. You'll now have Cydia on your homescreen.
Congratulations, you're now running the latest version of iOS and your device is jailbroken.
