Here's some major news for all those users of Windows Phone 7.5-based smartphones, who were waiting patiently for a long due Windows Phone 7.8 update.
Microsoft has again commenced pushing out of the Windows Phone 7.8 update for all the users looking to upgrade their devices to the latest upgrade up from the previous Windows 7.5, with a possible fix for the faulty live tile feature, according to reports.
This is quite good news for all WP-based device users after it was previously reported that Microsoft had actually halted the distribution of the update, most probably to address some of the issues related to the live tile feature, and even heard Joe Belfiore acknowledge the problem and assure users that Microsoft was working on a fix.
"We're getting our inbox flooded with tips from folks noting that their numerous Windows Phones (mostly unbranded), are receiving a new OS update today, knocking their build from 8858 to 8860. We just checked our AT&T Lumia 900 and did not have success, meaning carrier-branded devices may have to wait a few more weeks," WPCentral writes.
While there is no current changelog with the update and no confirmation has arrived officially from Microsoft, it can be assumed that the update, most importantly, is here to the tile stability issues that were found in the original Windows Phone 7.8 release.
These problems caused occasional tiles to not update and in other instances, drained too much data. Moreover, during the Zune Desktop installation, the only important phrase that is in the description is a "quality improvements", as opposed to new features or additions, and this strongly suggests that this is a bug-fix release.
The last time Windows Phone 7.8 was in the news was when Microsoft, reportedly, halted the pushing out of the refresh. However, later Nokia Russia confirmed the situation stating on its Twitter page: "Microsoft decided to temporarily suspend distribution updates WP7.8 for finalization."
"While this is common knowledge by now, Microsoft has been communicating very little around the Windows Phone 7.5 software update, making this the first official confirmation from some-one close to Microsoft that the roll-out has indeed been halted," WMPoweruser later stated.
