Talks about Android's next version, Android 5.0 which may be named as Key Lime Pie, are gaining momentum as the date of this year's Google I/O nears.
Earlier reports had suggested that Samsung will not update its some of the devices to the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and those devices will get the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean as the last firmware update. The reason behind the expected move was backed by some reasons that suggested that Samsung wants to do away with the devices which have already spent around two years in the market.
However, recent reports now suggest that the new Android version will support quad-core processors only and the devices running on dual-core processor will have to satisfy themselves with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
"The insider reconfirmed. All samrtphones and tablets based on a dual-core processor will end on Android 4.2.2," SamMobile reported some days ago.
If the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie is really going to support devices only on quad-core processors then Samsung's some of the flagship devices will also have to retire with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
The list published by SamMobile last month that gave away the full list of Samsung devices that are going to be updated to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, also has all the Samsung devices powered by a quad-core processor or a higher one in the 'to be updated' category.
According to SamMobile, these are the Samsung devices that are not going to get the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update:
GT-I9080 - Galaxy Grand
GT-I9082 - Galaxy Grand DUOS
GT-I8160 - Galaxy Ace 2
GT-I8190 - Galaxy S 3 mini
GT-I8350 - Galaxy Beam
GT-I8730 - Galaxy Express
GT-I9070 - Galaxy S Advance
GT-I9100 - Galaxy S 2
GT-I9105 - Galaxy S 2 Plus
GT-I9260 - Galaxy Premier
GT-N7000 - Galaxy Note
GT-S6310 - Galaxy Young
GT-S6312 - Galaxy Young DUOS
GT-S6810 - Galaxy Fame
GT-S7710 - Galaxy X Cover 2
Devices that are going to be updated to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie are:
GT-I9300 - Galaxy S 3
GT-I9305 - Galaxy S 3 LTE
GT-I9500 - Galaxy S 4
GT-I9505 - Galaxy S 4 LTE
GT-N5100 - Galaxy Note 8.0
GT-N5105 - Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE
GT-N5110 - Galaxy Note 8.0 Wi-Fi
GT-N7100 - Galaxy Note 2
GT-N7105 - Galaxy Note 2 LTE
GT-N8000 - Galaxy Note 10.1
GT-N8005 - Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE
GT-N8010 - Galaxy Note 10.1 Wi-Fi
The only exception the list has is the Samsung Galaxy S3 that comes with Qualcomm's dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor.
If this is the case, then the American users of Samsung Galaxy S3 will really feel cheated as they paid a huge amount to buy the device.
The U.S. carriers have also started bringing down the price of Samsung Galaxy S3 devices just ahead of the Galaxy S4 release.
AT&T became the first major carrier to move with the plan and brought down the Galaxy S3 price $100 directly. The Galaxy S3 will now be available with a two-year AT&T contract just for $99.
Other carriers are also expected to follow the move and slash the prices of Galaxy S3 in coming days.
