Amazon just cut the price of the new BlackBerry Z10 smartphone to $99 for new AT&T and Verizon customers willing to sign a two-year contract.
The BlackBerry Z10 is the latest flagship from the company formerly known as Research in Motion (RIM) and it runs on the new BlackBerry 10 (BB10) operating system. BlackBerry fans can now score a great deal with Amazon's new offer, as the handset is now available for $100 off its original $199 price tag.
As previously mentioned, the Amazon's $99 BlackBerry Z10 offer is for new AT&T and Verizon customers who enter a two-year commitment. Existing subscribers of one of the two carriers can get a discounted BlackBerry Z10 as well, but the price cut is less substantial. AT&T subscribers will be able to grab the handset for $149.99, while Verizon customers can get the Z10 for $139.99.
The new BlackBerry Z10 is the first smartphone running on the BB10 OS. It sports a 4.2-inch WXGA capacitive touchscreen TFT with a resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels, a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5GHz, Adreno 225 graphics and 2GB of RAM. Other features include an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with face detection, Time Shift and LED flash, and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter. The handset also offers Full HD (1080p) video recording at 30fps and 720p recording with the front camera.
The BlackBerry Z10 also packs 16GB of on-board storage, a micro SD card slot for additional memory, built-in Dropbox and Box integration, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Wi-Fi sync, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, a standard micro USB port and micro HDMI. Other features include BlackBerry Hub and BBM with video chat and screen sharing.
In terms of operating system, the BlackBerry Z10 will also get the first major upgrade to BlackBerry OS 10.1 in the near future. The update is more suitable for the upcoming BlackBerry Q10 handset, the second BB10 smartphone, but it will apply to the Z10 as well. This update will add improved camera capabilities (including HDR functions), PIN messaging and viewing files from the handset on a PC using BlackBerry Link, among other features.
