The Key To Living Longer is Bacon, Says 105-Year-Old Pearl Cantrell

Vamien McKalin

Bacon every day increases your chances of living to over 100: that's according to a 105-year-old grandmother, Pearl Cantrell. It is not certain how legitimate her claim  is, but if it does hold some merit, you can start your mornings off with at least a single strip of bacon to carry you through your day

"I love bacon, I eat it everyday," Pearl Cantrell told NBC affiliate KRBC when asked the secret to living so long. "I don't feel as old as I am, that's all I can say," Cantrell added.

Cantrell lives in central Texas, and even though she's 105, she can still dance. By her account, not only does bacon allow you to live longer, it allows you to keep doing your favorite activities as well. Cantrell added that her 105th birthday party had over 200 guests, and went on for three days, so not only does this woman have a long life, she has long birthday parties.

When Cantrell made her claim that bacon gave helped her live longer, American meat company Oscar Mayer took the opportunity to deliver some bacon to Cantrell's home. At this rate, don't be too surprised if this woman goes to age 150.

"We've seen a lot of stories on the road, but nothing quite like this one, so we're excited to be here," an Oscar Mayer spokesperson told Big Country Homepage. "We know she's an inspiration. Pearl is an inspiration for the community, and her friends and family. So we had to make a special stop here for her today."

The question is, should you eat bacon every day? Studies have shown that eating red meat can make for a healthy lifestyle, however, if you eat too much, health can be adversely impacted.
