Since Microsoft's own project Social Network dubbed as Socl came on the scene back in 2012, it hasn't really found a footing among Internet users. The platform does seem to have a loyal following, but as of now, it is small and the restrictions could be a reason for that. However, Microsoft is in no mood to give up on its pet project and the company is is introducing a handful of new features in hopes to attract more users.
Two of the new features now available on Socl comes in the form of a meme generator and GIF creator. This is a good idea since memes and GIFs are one of the leading activities on the Internet right now, and no other reputed social network possesses the abilities that allow users to create their own GIFs and meme content. The meme generator is known as Picotale. It allows you to enter a phrase and browse images that fit the meme, while Blink is basically a GIF creator that comes as a standalone app for both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. This app also have the option where users can create a short reeling video, something similar to what Vine offers.
We've seen that people like to create and share their own work, hence the reason for the success of Vine and Instagram. If Microsoft can convince users to visit Socl to create their own GIFs and Memes, the social network could take off before long and might even become a true contender to Facebook and Google+.
Furthermore, the Socl website is now designed with mobile phones in mind. The design is responsive and is also optimized for your device.
Here's a quick look at Socl's new features and improvements:
Picotale
Part "meme-generator," part game, Picotales are little stories made by overlaying text on an image.
BLINK
Currently available for Windows devices, BLINK apps provide ways to capture, create and share short dynamic media using Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8.
Collage - now with upload!
Collage, Socl's "go to" create experience now includes image upload...collages are comprised of images, links and videos found on the web or uploaded to Socl.
Video Party
Video Parties are shared video experiences on Socl - great for crafting a quick playlist to share with friends.
