Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean version, but the earlier flagship devices of the Korean company are still waiting for the update.
Samsung said that the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update will be rolled out to Galaxy devices after the release of Galaxy S4.
Now, the promised update looks to have almost arrived, as a report from PC-Tablet quotes "well-placed" sources, saying that the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update will be rolled out to Galaxy S3 and Note 2 devices by the end of this month.
According to the report, the insider also lists the Samsung devices that are not going to go beyond Jelly Bean.
The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean will bring a good number of changes for the Galaxy devices, including the all new and improved user interface. With the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, users of Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 devices will be able to experience and enjoy Galaxy S4-like features.
We anticipate that some of the features launched with Galaxy S4 will make their way to Note 2 and S3 with the help of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Some features that may reach older devices are:
Dual Camera: Galaxy S4's camera has become the most talked-about part of the phone and most of the features coming with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean to Galaxy S3 will be camera-related. The Dual Camera feature lets the user use both cameras at the same time with picture-in-picture or split screen display options.
Smart Pause: This feature is more of a user interface (UI) and front camera combined feature. This feature pauses a playing video whenever the user's head moves away from the screen. It also tracks the eye movement of the user and pauses the video whenever the eyes move away from the screen, and starts playing again as soon as the user's eyes move back to the screen.
The feature looks like an improved version of the Smart Stay feature introduced in Galaxy S3. The Smart Stay feature uses the front camera and checks whether a pair of eyes is looking at the screen or not. If it doesn't recognize eyes looking at the screen, it turns off the screen and saves the phone's power.
Sound and Shot: Now our ears will also have something enhanced whenever a picture is taken with the Galaxy S4 camera. The Sound and Shot feature records a maximum 9 seconds of audio when a picture is clicked. You can enjoy a picture more by adding background sound to it.
Group Play: With Group Play function, you can pair multi-devices and share music, documents, pictures and, most important, games. This feature will be a treat for game lovers, as they can now play games in multi-player mode on their Galaxy smartphones.
There is no doubt that Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 devices will be getting the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update and it will continue receiving additional updates. However, some devices from Samsung are facing a bleak future in terms of firmware updates.
Many devices might not see any Android update after this and are not going to get the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie expected to be announced at next week's Google I/O in San Francisco.
