HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update expected on June 12

Alexandra Burlacu

The HTC One is one stylish, sexy smartphone and could get even sexier with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board, an update expected today, June 12.

While the HTC One is among the hottest flagships of this year, the smartphone still runs on the slightly older Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and rival Samsung Galaxy S4 rocks the latest 4.2 version. All this could change in a few hours, as the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One could arrive anytime now.

HTC did not make anything official yet, but some teasers from within HTC point to an imminent update. HTC France, for instance, posted an interesting message on its Facebook page on Tuesday, June 11.

"Advice for tomorrow: drink a good coffee and check your phone - repeat if necessary..." would read the translation.

The post may not mention the Android 4.2.2 update specifically, but why check your phone repeatedly if not for an update? Another tip, meanwhile, comes from Yives Wi, the Ambassador of HTC France.

"#HTCOne Update (OTA) coming tomorrow to 2.x version (4.2.2 & Sense 5)," Yves Wi posted on Twitter.

Many leaks and rumors suggested the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update would hit the HTC One in mid-June, but this is the first indication from an HTC Ambassador. All things considered, it looks like the update is on its way, at least for the international version of the handset.

Updating the HTC One to the latest version of Android will definitely come as good news for owners of the handset, especially those envious of Samsung Galaxy S4 users who got to enjoy Android 4.2.2 right away. Google is also expected to give Jelly Bean another spin and roll out version 4.3 soon, which makes an update to version 4.2 even more important.

Customers who buy the latest, hottest smartphones want the latest software as well, and it's only natural considering that high-end devices don't exactly come cheap. The HTC One is considered one of the best Android smartphones of 2013 but one of the few complaints was that it launched with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board. If the signs are accurate, the update to Android 4.2 should arrive shortly, making the HTC One even more popular and bringing it on par with the Samsung Galaxy S4. HTC One owners, check your gorgeous smartphone and let us know if anything changes on the OS front. Ready for a new Jelly Bean?
