Despite recent rumors and speculations, the HTC One will get an update to the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, HTC has confirmed.
The HTC One is one of the hottest, highest-end smartphones currently available on the market and it was hard to believe that it wouldn't get Android 4.2.2 update. HTC, however, has confirmed that the handset will get the update, following rumors that the latest Android build was not coming.
It all started with a recent tweet from UK carrier Three, which replied to a user's question saying that HTC pulled the Android 4.2.2 update for the HTC One. The carrier said that a new release was not scheduled.
As expected, the news stirred lots of waves and speculation. The shed light on the matter, HTC told Engadget that HTC One owners need not worry about getting the update, as its flagship smartphone will get a taste of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The Taiwanese company offered no official release date for the update, but at least now we know for sure that it's in the cards.
The HTC One is one of the most popular Android smartphones, but it trails behind rivals in terms of Android updates. The smartphone is still running on the older Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean build with Sense 5 out of the box, while competing devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 rock the latest version of Android.
HTC One owners may have to wait a bit longer to get the latest build, but the smartphones high-end specs and features might make it worth a wait for many. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is expected to land on the HTC one sometime in June, but nothing is certain at this point. Until HTC officially announces a rollout date for the update, all we know for sure is that Android 4.2 is coming.
The latest Android build should bring a number of exciting new features to the HTC One flagship, including a much-needed battery life notifier, the ability to remove icons from the dock, the popular DayDream feature, changes to the app drawer and much more.
