The long-awaited OUYA Android-powered gaming console is finally making its official debut and the gadget is now available for sale with a $100 price tag.
Although original backers have yet to see their console shipped, the OUYA hits retail stores such as Best Buy, Target and the OUYA store. Amazon and GameStop are among the retail partners as well, but the former is showing the console as "out of stock," while the latter is currently not allowing users to add the item to their cart.
The Android-powered console stirred plenty of waves when it ran its Kickstarter campaign and it suffered some delays, as well as several changes along the way. The good news is that it finally managed to make its way to the market and will be available at hundreds of stores across the U.S., Canada and the UK. All the U.S. and Canadian stores selling the OUYA console lists a $99.99 retail price, while UK gamers can grab the gadget for the same price in pounds and support the exchange rates, which make it a bit more expensive.
For that $99.99 price tag, interested buyers will get the console itself and the controller, but anything extra will get more expensive. An additional controller will cost no less than $49. The company makes no mention yet regarding retail stock for the OUYA console, so it remains unclear at this point whether it will be able to address the likely high demand.
Those who were not the initial backers still waiting for their console can now check out the retail partners and get the OUYA starting Tuesday, June 25. Here's where you can find it:
OUYA duly notes that all international orders are typically subject to local import duties and taxes (VAT) and customers outside of the U.S. may face additional fees and restrictions. Check out the retail partners, decide where you want to purchase your console from and let us know how it fares. After such a long wait, OUYA surely has some big expectations to live up to.
