HTC EVO 4G LTE Android 4.3 Jelly Bean coming ‘by the end of the year’

Alexandra Burlacu

The HTC EVO 4G LTE will receive the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software update by the end of the year, the company announced.

HTC has recently started to roll out the latest Jelly Bean flavor for its current flagship, the HTC One, and it seems that the HTC EVO 4G LTE is next in line to get the much-awaited software bump.

The company did not provide a specific date for when the update will actually roll out to the handset, but it did mention that it will bring along the new HTC Sense 5 as well.

The news comes from HTC President Jason Mackenzie, who made the announcement via Twitter on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The HTC EVO 4G LTE made its debut in the middle of last year, launching with the older Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) on board. The smartphone got an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at the end of 2012 and it now seems it will skip the Android 4.2 step and go straight to the latest Android 4.3. Considering that there are newer handsets that are yet to receive the latest software version, HTC's efforts to upgrade a 2012 smartphone to Android 4.3 are commendable.

For those unfamiliar with the device, the HTC EVO 4G LTE comes with a 4.7-inch HD Super LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and packs a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5GHz under the hood.

Other specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera, 16GB of internal storage capacity, micro SD card slot for additional memory of up to 32GB, NFC, and 4G LTE, among others.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean comes with some notable improvements and features compared to the previous software version. The "by the end of the year" timeframe Mackenzie mentioned for the update rollout is rather vague.

Considering that it's already October, however, HTC EVO 4G LTE owners won't have too long of a wait until they can try out the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on their handsets. The smartphone launched in mid-2012, which means that customers who purchased it with a two-year contract are still tied to their agreement and a software update will surely be welcomed.
