Sony has released an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean firmware update for the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra, adding several improvements and bug fixes to the smartphones.
The company has started pushing the maintenance release on Tuesday, Oct. 15, to the two handsets.
"After these products started hitting markets, (as always) we listened closely to feedback and looked at how we could refine the build quality," Sony announced in a company blog post. As you know, we're keen to ensure that all our software is as good as it can possibly be, so we've addressed & improved on a few things..."
According to the changelog, the Sony Xperia Z1 will now boast a tweaked camera algorithm designed to enhance the overall performance of the camera. Moreover, Sony also made some improvements to the Smart Social Camera platform. The company further boasts that the camera app is now smoother following improvements to Burst Mode, Superior Auto, AR effect and Sweep Panorama.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra, meanwhile, received some updates to improve the touchscreen sensitivity for both finger gestures and stylus input.
Changes that apply to both the Sony Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z Ultra include re-calibration of the displays, as well as improvements in terms of power consumption, which should provide an increased battery performance. Sony has also made some enhancements to email with Exchange, which should now allow for faster email sync, display and download.
As usual with firmware updates, Sony notes that timing of the rollout and availability may vary depending on region, as well as carrier. The update is currently rolling out, so it should hit the new devices soon enough.
