The Microsoft Surface Pro 2 tablet has received an update that boosts battery life by as much as 20-25 percent.
The new-generation Surface Pro 2 tablet already boasted an improved battery life over the original slate. Microsoft promised to increase battery life by up to 75 percent with its new iteration and the company delivered. A new update now adds nearly 25 percent extra battery life.
Before the update, the Surface Pro 2 lasted for about 7 hours and a half on a single charge. According to the folks over at The Verge, the tablet's battery performance is now even more impressive.
"In our own Verge Battery Test we can confirm that the battery life on the Surface Pro 2 has increased to 8 hours, 51 minutes following the firmware update, an almost 20 percent increase," reports the publication.
Microsoft pushed out the firmware update shortly after the Surface Pro 2 tablet hit general availability. According to an AnAndTech report, the update allowed the Marvell Wi-Fi chip to use less power, thus making it possible to squeeze an nearly 25 percent more out of the same battery.
"I spoke with Microsoft after the update went live and immediately re-ran both of our battery life benchmarks on the Surface Pro 2. The improvement is significant," AnAndTech notes.
This is definitely good news for owners of the new Microsoft Surface 2, as well as the company. With higher-end specs, top-notch features and now even more battery life, Microsoft could appeal to a larger audience and sell more of its Surface Pro 2 tablets.
As a reminder, the Surface Pro 2 has a 10.6-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. According to Microsoft, the new display is roughly 50 percent more accurate than the one found on the original Surface Pro. The new model also comes with an upgraded Intel core i5 Haswell processor clocked at 1.6GHz, which makes it 20 percent faster compared to the original tablet.
Microsoft highlighted that its new Surface Pro 2 is not just a tablet, it is a real powerhouse combining the power of a desktop with the portability of a tablet to offer the best of both worlds.
