The Verizon HTC Droid DNA is finally getting the promised Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update, along with HTC Sense 5.
Verizon said several months ago that it will update the Droid DNA to Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5, but the OTA never rolled out. Just in time for the holidays, Verizon and HTC have officially announced that the update is ready to roll out.
"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update designed to improve the performance of your Droid DNA by HTC smartphone," announced the carrier.
The update will bring the HTC Droid DNA more on par with the HTC One, providing a somewhat similar experience with popular features such as BlinkFeed, enhanced HTC Sense apps, quick settings, and more. Other changes will improve the Gallery, Calendar, People, and Smart Dialer apps. As usual, the update will also bring along several tweaks and bug fixes.
As Verizon points out, the update will also add support for the TalkBack feature, which aims to facilitate Internet accessibility for the visually impaired.
The HTC Droid DNA is widely considered the best Droid from the 2012 family and the handset enjoyed great popularity. Many smartphone owners still use the Droid DNA, and the update will surely be welcomed.
According to HTC's announcement, the Droid DNA update will roll out in two separate phases. The first part will install software version 2.08.605.1 710RD, but the best goodies will arrive with the second part. The subsequent upgrade to version 3.06.605.4 will come with the long-awaited Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5.
For instructions on how to download and install the update, visit either Verizon's or HTC's announcements. Both companies offer step-by-step guides on how to upgrade your Verizon HTC Droid DNA to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5. It may not be the latest software available, but the new Android and Sense versions will definitely make a big difference. The OTA should roll out very soon, but it may take a while to reach all devices. If you get the update, let us know how it fares in the comment section below.
