ASUS is expanding its dual-OS convertible lineup with the addition of the new Transformer Book Duet TD300, which runs both Android 4.2.2 and Windows 8.1.
The brand new Transformer Book Duet TD300 is a laptop/tablet hybrid that allows users to instantly switch between Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Windows 8.1 with the simple push of a button.
It's worth pointing out, however, that the Transformer Book Duet is a dual-OS device, not a dual-boot one. This means that when you use one operating system, the other OS will go into a state of hibernation. The other OS will, however, resume instantly as soon as you switch back to it, in exactly the same state you left it in.
Although it's running two operating systems, the device has a single CPU. It packs an Intel Core i7 processor under the hood, coupled with 4GB of LPDDR3/1600 memory. It comes with up to 128GB of SSD storage, features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11ac adapters.
ASUS boasts that its new Transformer Book Duet is "the world's first quad-mode, dual-OS laptop and tablet convertible."
"By offering both operating systems, ASUS provides users the ability to run supported Android applications and a vast array of native Windows applications," touts the press release. "Transformer Book Duet features a powerful Intel Core i7 processor with Intel HD graphics and 4G DDR3L 1600 RAM, giving it performance that's up to twice as fast as existing tablets powered by ARM processors."
The device sports a 13.3-inch IPS touchscreen display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It has a microSD card slot for additional memory and also features a headphone jack, but has no USB ports. The keyboard dock, however, features one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, a headset jack, 10/100 mb LAN, and HDMI 1.4. Together, the tablet and keyboard dock weigh just over four pounds. The device also comes with up to 1TB of mechanical storage in dock.
ASUS has yet to offer an exact launch date or pricing details for its new Transformer Book Duet TD300, but we'll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as we learn more.
