Verizon reportedly secure exclusive rights to sell HTC One 2014 from launch day, March 25
Alexandra BurlacuVerizon Wireless has reportedly secured the exclusive rights to sell the All New HTC One 2014 (M8) as soon as Tuesday, March 25.
HTC has already confirmed that it will unveil its latest flagship smartphone tomorrow, and various rumors have suggested that the HTC One successor will go on sale immediately.
Verizon has drawn a lot of criticism last year for botching the HTC One launch, adding the handset to its lineup several months after it launched on other carriers. This year Verizon apparently wants to make up for its past mistakes and offer the All New HTC One exclusively for a while, as soon as it becomes available.
"If you're still holding a grudge against Verizon for releasing the 2013 HTC One several months after its competitors - Verizon is about to redeem itself in a huge way," HTC Source reports. "A trusted source has revealed to us that the all new HTC One will go on sale in the US starting 1PM EST on March 25th. We'd love to tell you that you'll be able to walk into an AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint retail store to fondle or purchase the all new HTC One, but Verizon will be the only major service provider in the US to sell the all new HTC One on March 25. Our source tells us that Verizon will be selling the phone 'exclusively for a couple of weeks' - putting the global launch in sync with previous rumors which say the device will be hitting 110 global markets 'two weeks after the 25th.'"
If this report turns out to be true, Verizon Wireless will be the only U.S. carrier to offer HTC's latest flagship smartphone on launch day, while other mobile operators will be forced to wait until Verizon's exclusivity period ends.
This practice is not very common in the mobile world, but it's not unseen either. The HTC One successor is one of the most highly-anticipated devices of 2014 and an initial availability exclusive to just one major carrier in the U.S. will likely drum up even more excitement around the handset.
Based on leaks and reports so far, the upcoming HTC One 2014 is expected to sport a 5-inch full HD display, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a dual rear camera setup with UltraPixel technology, and other high-end specs and features. On the software side, the handset is expected to launch with Android 4.4 KitKat and HTC's latest Sense 6.0 UI on board.
HTC Source had no details regarding the pricing of the All New HTC One, but recent retail listings have suggested a $600 price tag for the unlocked device, i.e. the same price the 2013 HTC One had at launch.
Nothing is for certain just yet, but the HTC One 2014 unveiling is just around the corner. We'll keep an eye on the launch and bring you the latest details as soon as they become available, so stay tuned.
