Verizon Droid Turbo boasts QHD display, Snapdragon 805 CPU, 48-hour battery life & more
Alexandra BurlacuMotorola and Verizon Wireless have officially taken the wraps off the new Droid Turbo powerhouse, and the smartphone is nothing short of impressive.
The Droid Turbo comes with top-notch specs and features all around just as rumored, and is considerably more high-end than the new Moto X flagship, for instance.
The smartphone made its debut on Tuesday, Oct. 28, as expected, and it will hit commercial availability on Oct 30 just as rumors suggested.
"It's hard to believe that it's been five years since we launched the original DROID. Since then, DROID smartphones have come to be known for speed, power and endurance, built to outperform your expectations and push the limits of what smartphones can do. And today, we're excited to announce the latest in this lineup of premium smartphones: DROID Turbo," Motorola touted in a blog post on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
"From the beginning, DROID smartphones have come with leading-edge technology, including Verizon's blazingly fast network speeds, exceptional battery life and the latest in innovative material design. And DROID Turbo is no exception. Designed to keep pace with you, DROID Turbo gives you ultimate power and performance without compromise featuring amazing specs wrapped into a package of cutting-edge materials."
The new Droid Turbo comes with a Kevlar rear cover, in a choice of Metallic Glass Fiber or Ballistic Nylon, while Gorilla Glass 3 protects the front panel. Moreover, the handset also comes with water-repellent nanocoating to withstand the occasional splash so it's rugged all around.
Unlike other rugged smartphones out there, however, the Motorola Droid Turbo for Verizon Wireless makes no compromises in terms of specs. The smartphone boasts a 5.2-inch AMOLED display with a great QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and packs a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor under the hood, clocked at 2.7GHz and paired with 3GB of RAM.
Other specs include a 21-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual LED flash, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a large 3,900 mAh battery with Turbo Charging. The battery will last for 48 hours on a single charge, while Turbo Charging will allow users to get up to eight hours of use from a 15-minute rapid charge. On the software side, the handset comes with Android 4.4.4 out of the box, upgradeable to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. Popular Moto X features are also on board, including Moto Assist, Display, Voice, and Actions.
As previously mentioned, the Verizon Droid Turbo will become available for purchase on Thursday, Oct. 30. The 32GB model will cost $199.99 with a new two-year contract or $25 per month on Verizon Edge, and will be available in Metallic Black, Metallic Red, and Black Ballistic Nylon. The 64GB model, meanwhile, will cost $249.99 with a two-year contract or $27 per month with Verizon Edge, and will be available only in Black Ballistic Nylon. Lastly, Verizon is also throwing in one free screen replacement within the two-year contract period to further sweeten things up.
